iSouth Artist to Watch: Leon Timbo

Leon Timbo ft. R.Kelly  - Don't Call (Remix)

When Leon Timbo went to perform at Bishop T.D. Jakes’ The Potter’s Church in 2008, he hoped to change people’s lives with his uplifting music, but his live was changed when he was met backstage by Tyrese. Timbo opened for Tyrese at the House of Blues in Dallas, and went on to create music with Tyrese, Quincy Jones and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds to R. Kelly and Diddy. Timbo taps into a deep emotional connection on “Don’t Call,” which details the type of help a loved one provides by simply being there for their friend. “It’s a reflection of something that I missed personally and that I think, as a principle, we’ve missed,” he says. “We’ve missed someone being there for us without an agenda, someone loving us because they love us.” In 2010, while recording Transformer 3, Tyrese recorded Leon Timbo and R. Kelly playing around in an acoustic set. This not only displays while R. Kelly is the king but also sets the ground this incredible remix. Leon Timbo is the singer/songwriter to watch.

iSouth Artist to Watch: Mila J

Mila J Ft. Ty Dolla $ign- Smoke, Drink, Break-Up (REMIX)
DOWNLOAD:http://www.sharebeast.com
Mila J (Jamila Akiko) is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and older sister of Jhené Aiko from Los Angeles, California. She and her sister Miyoko were in the R&B group Gyrl, managed by Stokes and toured with Immature. When they were backup dancers for Immature, they appeared in the videos "Da Munchies", "Constantly" , "Constantly" (the remix version), and "I Don't Mind. After appearing on tracks by RaRa, IMx, and Omarion, Mila J was set to release a 2006 solo album "Split Personality" but it was shelved. She released a mixtape that created some buzz in 2012 but now in 2014 she’s getting attention for being the big sister to the upcoming star Jhené Aiko. In her lastest single, she’s channeling Aaliyah the way Ciara tried to. If you loved Aaliyah and Missy from the 1990’s, that’s right it’s the same grain of 1996 One in Million album, then it’s a reason to pay attention to big sis!!! She’s an artist to watch.

iSouth Throwback Thursday

Silk - Meeting in My Bedroom (1999)
DOWNLOAD:http://www.hulkshare.com

Silk is an American R&B group, formed in 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. Their music was great and had a sexy style in their lyrics. The five had a gospel background. They started off by singing in their home churches. Keith Sweat was one artist that they also gave praise to for noticing their potential in music. That was a start of brighter things in music.Silk moved from Atlanta GA. to Los Angeles CA. to work one on one with Sweat. Basically all R&B groups are extinct today, so for this “Throwback Thursday” I’m giving you a taste of some REAL SANGIN. As Day 26 and TGT are in the studio right now planning on another album, check on how it used to go down when people could actually sing.

Foxy Brown ft. Blackstreet - Get Me Home (1996)

"Get Me Home" is the first single from Foxy Brown's debut album Ill Na Na. The song features R&B male group Blackstreet The song peaked at number 42 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts and number 10 on the U.S. Billboard R&B charts. Not only was this Foxy Brown’s first single but it’s her highest charting single to date. In 1990’s we had more than one female rapper (Nicki Minaj). From Lil Kim, Missy, Da Brat, Left Eye, Queen Pen; Foxy was suppose to take over the game once Jay-Z put his stamp on her but disappeared just like Amil did from Rockfella. She’s had beef with everyone from Lil Kim to hotel workers plus manicurists which she caught an assault charges. On August 14, 2012, Foxy Brown appeared as a special featured guest on Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday Tour in New York City. Rapper AZ hinted that she is working on new material with Nicki Minaj. On August 15, 2013, Foxy Brown appeared on MTV Rapfix and announced her fourth studio album tentatively titled "Bandz Up" and a single of the same name, produced by Joe Milly, is set to be released December 24, 2013. Crickets….still waiting

Anthony Lewis Feat. Billy Bang - Candy Rain

Seventeen-year old Anthony Lewis teams up with Queens rapper Billy Bang to remake Soul For Real’s 1994 R&B classic “Candy Rain.” Both artists are currently signed a to former Interscope Records executive Garnett March’s record label The Chemists. March worked with 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Blackstreet, Master P, Westside Connection, Floetry, Mary J. Blige, Keyshia Cole, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar. I can’t say I’m a fan of this remake. I don’t think anything will ever come close to the original. There was just magic that Heavy D shared with Soul For Real. Check the original Candy Rain Remix below. RIP HEAVY!!!

Zhané- Sending My Love (1994)
Zhané (pronounced Jah-Nay) was an American R&B/hip hop soul duo, best known for their 1993 hit "Hey Mr. D.J.", which reached No. 6 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Other popular hits include "Groove Thang" (U.S. No. 17) and minor hit "Sending My Love," both released in 1994. The group was part of Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit collective. In 1991, the pair met DJ Jazzy Jeff and their first professional recording together was "Ring My Bell" on the same album that featured DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Summertime”. Zhané came away with one of the hip-hop party anthems of all time, "Hey, Mr. D.J." After meeting Naughty by Nature member Kay Gee. They impressed the producer enough to go right into the studio to record for Roll Wit tha Flava. When "Hey, Mr. D.J." was released as a separate single as well, it hit number six on the pop charts and earned the group a contract with Motown in 1994. Zhané released the follow-up album Saturday Night in 1997, co-produced by Kay Gee, Eddie F., and themselves. The release featured the hit single "Request Line." A remix with different lyrics and raps by Queen Latifah followed. It peaked just outside the Top 40. They’ve pretty much disappeared after this album until Estelle sampled this song for her remix below in 2011. Check it out!
